Vaccines based on VLP technology are a serious alternative to traditional vaccines as they overcome many of the disadvantages that have made it impossible to develop vaccines for life-threatening diseases.

VLPs are capsid-shaped structures and are essentially composed of viral structural proteins. The VLPs do not present viral genetic material and therefore lack infectious potential; however they are capable of continuing to stimulate the immune system. This characteristic makes it possible to design VLPs with specific epitopes of diseases without a current cure so that a specific immune response is activated in the organism and without infectious risk.
